ODFs often come with pre-installed cable entries, splice trays, pigtails, and adapters. An optical Distribution Frame (ODF) or patch panel is the starting point for optical cables, most commonly found in rack cabinets in Head End (HE)/Central Office (CO)/Point of Presence (POP)/Data Centre (DC) or smaller cabinets or enclosures. In plain terms, an ODF is the enclosure where incoming fiber cables are routed, spliced, terminated and cross-connected to the active equipment or jumper/patchcords that feed the rest of a network. This installation procedure provides general guidance and instructions on how the ODF should be installed and secured. No prerequisite knowledge is required for this course but as this is designed for technicians and installers, previous exposure to fiber.
